SICAB-SINO ITALIAN CAPACITY BUILDING FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IS A HIGH-LEVEL TRAINING PROGRAM SUPPORTED BY THE ITALIAN MINISTRY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, LAND AND SEA WITHIN THE SINO-ITALIAN COOPERATION PROGRAM FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION (SICP).

The High Level Program of the MATTM was first created in 2003 and then saw the participation of many relevant Chinese institutions in the field of environment. The program has trained more than 10,000 representatives both in the public and in private sector thanks to more than 25 courses. Sicab aims at promoting the exchange of scientific and technological expertise on the issues of environmental management and sustainable development. It foresees a range of courses and academic lectures, as well as field visits and study of best practices. High-level directors and officials, researchers of numerous Chinese institutions are the beneficiaries of this program.

For 2018 and 2019 professional consortium led by the Politecnico di Milano provides the training courses. The consortium includes Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change, Italy China Foundation, Fondazione Politecnico di Milano and Sapienza University of Rome.

 

Sicab pursues the following objectives:

  • strengthening of the planning capacity of the representatives of the central and local Chinese institutions in the field of environmental issues that have been deemed as a priority in the Chinese agenda, specifically:
    – climate change
    – sustainable development
    – environmental management
    – pollution of air, water, soil and urban areas: prevention and management
    – waste management and disposal
    – green economy and resource efficiency

  • promotion of innovative Italian environmental technologies with the presentation of case studies, field visits and direct involvement of public and private bodies
  • exchange of best practices, of legal, technological, and policy knowledge on environmental issues that have been identified as essential for the Chinese Government
  • strengthening of research and development to reinforce the collaboration between Italy and China in the field of the “green economy” and the environmental sustainability of manufacturing processes.

Beyond training activities, the program aims at creating a community of people made up by the participants, Chinese institutions, universities, companies in order to scale up the opportunities to deepen Italian technologies and experiences. Throughout this system, Italian companies are solicited to further learn about the goals of the Chinese agenda. Eventually, Sicab’s dissemination activities are willing to set up a network to start initiatives and projects in the Chinese territory and market.
