9 December 2018 – 23 December 2018

The module aims to provide an in-depth overview of the issue of climate change, its impacts on key sectors and how those impacts are tackled globally in the framework of mitigation and adaptation measures. The CMCC ltalian and international experience on the impact forecasts, on the techniques and on the strategies for mitigation and adaptation will be shared with the participants, by proposing themes of peculiar interest, transferable and applicable to the Chinese territorial context. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the main economic and productive sectors will be analyzed from the climate change perspective, focusing on the national and international policies and strategies, the innovative technology systems and best practices.

The module foresees an introductory part on the topic of Global Environment and Climate Change definition, through which the lecturers will provide an overview on the key international agreements and treaties on environmental protection and climate. Furthermore the main scientific instruments and methods currently available for the production of high-resolution climate scenarios. The topic of mitigation of climate change will then follow through the analysis of the main technical policies and mitigation strategies for the main sectors: energy policies, city management, pollution and circular economy. Finally, the topic of adaptation to climate change will be addressed through workshops and demonstrations on Italian case studies for different fields of interest.

The above mentioned topics will be conveyed through frontal lectures, held by teachers, researchers and high profile professionals, practical workshops and exercises. They will actively involve the audience, who will practically experience the acquired theoretical notions. These activities will create technical and cultural tools easily transferable into the Chinese context. Last but not least, an external visit to a production site will provide insights and concrete solutions through the observation of the results achieved in specific case studies, thus providing added value to the lessons learned during the didactic activities.
